Founding Principal
Hiei is a licensed architect with over a decade of experience across single-family residential, institutional, and commercial projects. Hiei approaches each project as a collaborative process, working closely with clients to create thoughtful, functional spaces that reflect their goals, lifestyle, and vision. His work balances design, construction knowledge, and practicality to create spaces that feel both refined and personal.
He earned a degree in Architectural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, where he developed an early interest in how design ideas are translated into built form through close collaboration between disciplines.
Hiei began his career working with a custom fabricator, gaining hands-on experience to solve building challenges from the builder’s perspective. He later joined Perkins&Will in Seattle as a designer, contributing to historical restorations, and residential, and commercial developments that demanded design and technical precision.
After becoming a licensed architect, Hiei founded Dumuchi Design with a goal of creating a more personal and collaborative design practice. He continues to grow the practice through referrals and long-term client relationships.
Outside the office, Hiei enjoys spending time with his two young boys, playing soccer, building furniture, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.
